A Primitive Antique 18th Century Wrought Iron Wall Spike Candle Holder Stabbed Into A Piece Of Heavily Weathered Wood.
It features a simple, hand forged cylindrical socket on an L-shaped arm which shows rusting and heavy pitting from age. The spike is driven directly into the face of a thick, heavily weathered wooden block which shows splits and burn marks.
These wall spikes were a versatile form of lighting that could be hammered straight into barn walls, timber beams, or portable wooden bases.
A beautiful decorative piece.
Condition is good, commensurate with age, use and primitive nature of its structure. The candle spike itself shows signs of rusting and pitting. It is a little loose in the wood. The wooden board backing is heavily weathered, showing both splits and burn marks.
