A curious antique 19th century handwritten solicitor’s manuscript dated 1826 describing a legal case involving trespass, violent assault, kidnap and false imprisonment.
The complaint states that on April 24, 1826, in Liverpool, the victim was violently assaulted, dragged out of an enclosed yard, forced through the streets to a makeshift prison in Kirkdale. The victim was allegedly imprisoned there for four hours, which resulted in him being physically injured, bruised, and wounded, while also suffering damage to his personal credit and circumstances.
The lawless attack was likely driven by debt collectors, and by highlighting both his physical trauma and the ruin of his "personal credit," the document shows how this public kidnapping shattered not only the victim's body but also his social honour and financial livelihood.
Condition is okay, some discolouration, tears, folds and staining.
