A magnificent early 17th century carved stone head of a man sourced from the out houses of Newton Old Hall and almost certainly depicts the original owner.

Built around 1625 by Godfrey Frogatt, Newton Old Hall is a Grade II listed manor in Derbyshire with a richly documented history. It houses a spectacular 17th century plasterwork ceiling and timber beams harvested from trees felled as early as 1415, suggesting it was built upon even older foundations.
The house features a "secret room" or priest hole, marking its history as a clandestine sanctuary for recusant Catholics and early Nonconformists during eras of religious persecution.
Furthermore, it is famously linked to the childhood of Jedediah Strutt, a pioneer of the Industrial Revolution, who reportedly developed his early mechanical ideas within its walls.
This is a fabulous survivor with a rare provenance and it now absolutely displays magnificently as a piece of decorative art.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound.
