A Curious Macabre Antique 19th Century ‘Memento Mori’ Walking Stick. The Handle Is Engraved With ‘Memento Mori’ On One Side And ‘Mors Janua Vitae’ To The Other. The Wood Is Malacca.

‘Memento Mori’ is a Latin phrase that means “remember that you must die”. 

“Mors Janua Vitae” is also Latin and means “Death is the gateway to life”.

I can safely say I’ve never seen a Memento Mori walking cane… A curiously macabre piece! 

Condition is decent, commensurate with age and heavy use. Lots of age related wear to the handle and stick itself. The metal collar has been bashed as has the metal tip.
